Some Comments on "Transition-Oriented" Versus "Structured" Specification of Distributed Algorithms and Protocols
نویسندگان
چکیده
Formal description techniques (FDT's) are being developed for the specification of communication protocols and other distributed systems. Some of them (namely SDL and Estelle) are based on an extended state transition model and promote a "transition-oriented" specification style. Another one (namely Lotos) and most highlevel programming languages promote a style which is called "structured." The correspondence compares these two specification styles in the framework of rendezvous interactions between different system modules. The advantages of each of the two styles are discussed in relation with an example of a virtual ring mutual exclusion protocol. Transformation rules between the two approaches are given. An extension to the state transition oriented FDT's is also suggested in order to allow for a structured specification style.

Background: To reduce uncertainties of patient positioning, the Computerized Tomography (CT) images acquired at the treatment planning time can be compared with those images obtained during radiation dose delivery. This can be followed during dose delivery procedure as Image Guided radiotherapy (IGRT) to verify the prescribed radiation dose delivery to the target as well as to monitor ...

The present study intended to evaluate EFL students' performance on a traditional method of writing assessment in comparison to an alternative assessment technique by taking into account the effects of teacher and peer feedback. Moreover, the attitudes of the participants regarding assessment procedures and activities were focused in this study. To this end, thirty male and female language lear...

متن کاملSynthesizing Structured Analysis and Object-Oriented Specifications
Structured Analysis (SA) is a widely-used software development method. SA specifications are based on Data Flow Diagrams (DFD's), Data Dictionaries (DD's) and data transformation specifications (P-Specs). As used in practice, SA specifications are not formal. Seemingly orthogonal approaches to specifications are those using formal, object-oriented, model-based specification languages, e.g., VDM...
متن کاملIterative Cycle Detection via Delaying Explorers MSR-TR-2015-28
Liveness specifications on finite-state concurrent programs are checked using algorithms to detect reachable cycles in the state-transition graph of the program. We present new algorithms for cycle detection based on the idea of prioritized search via a delaying explorer. We present thorough evaluation of our algorithms on a variety of reactive asynchronous programs, including device drivers, d...
